Tesla Recalls Nearly 700,000 Vehicles

(Reuters) – Tesla announced on Friday it is recalling 694,304 vehicles in the United States due to an issue with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The TPMS warning light may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, failing to warn drivers of low tire pressure, according to a recall acknowledgement notice.

This problem could lead to drivers operating vehicles with improperly inflated tires, increasing the risk of a crash, the notice stated.

The issue affects some Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck vehicles and will be resolved through an over-the-air software update, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stated.

Tesla's vehicles represented 21% of all U.S. recalls in the first three quarters of the year, according to recall management firm BizzyCar. However, most of the issues faced by the brand's vehicles were typically resolved through over-the-air software updates.

In the September quarter, Tesla recalled 1,858,774 vehicles, the highest in the U.S. market, but most problems could be addressed through software updates.

In November, the company also recalled 2,400 Cybertruck units in the U.S. due to a faulty part that could cause a loss of power, increasing crash risk, marking the sixth recall for its electric pickup truck this year.
