Tesla Recall of Cybertrucks
(Reuters) – Tesla announced on Thursday a recall of over 27,000 Cybertrucks due to delays in rear-view camera images, which could compromise driver visibility and heighten crash risks. A software update is set to resolve the issue.
Details of the Recall
This recall impacts most Cybertrucks in the U.S. and marks the largest recall of the electric truck to date. Earlier, Tesla had recalled vehicles in April for a loose accelerator pedal pad and again in June for problems with windshield wipers and exterior trim.
Tesla began deliveries of the Cybertruck in November 2023 after a two-year delay attributed to production challenges and battery supply constraints. So far, the company has not revealed specific production or delivery figures for the Cybertruck.
CEO Elon Musk introduced the Blade Runner-inspired truck to revitalize Tesla’s aging product lineup in response to slowing EV demand.
Investor scrutiny of the model is significant, given the resources Tesla has committed to its development.
Technical Issues
Tesla reported that in affected vehicles, the Cybertruck’s system may not complete the shutdown process before being commanded to reboot, causing delays in the rear-view image display. This issue can result in the image failing to appear within two seconds when shifting into reverse and may present a blank display for up to six to eight seconds.
The automaker identified the problem early last month, and all Cybertrucks in production have received the necessary software update to fix the issue.
