Stellantis to Begin Production of New Lancia Gamma in 2026

MILAN – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) announced on Friday it will start production of a new Lancia Gamma mid-sized car in 2026 at its Melfi plant in southern Italy. The Franco-Italian automaker aims to revive its output in the country with new models.

Stellantis, which includes brands like Fiat and Alfa Romeo, faces serious political criticism in Italy due to declining local production. This comes amid soft demand and plans to manufacture some new models abroad.

Forecasts by the FIM-CISL union indicate the company's production in Italy will drop below 500,000 vehicles this year, down from 751,000 in 2023.

From January to September, output at Stellantis' Italian assembly plants fell over 30%, with a 62% decline at Melfi, according to FIM-CISL.

The company has a multi-year plan to produce five new mid-sized models at Melfi across various brands, including Lancia, targeting European and Middle Eastern markets, based on the new 'STLA Medium' platform.

Additionally, Stellantis plans to begin production of the latest Jeep Compass mid-sized SUV and a new car under its premium DS brand at Melfi next year.

Stellantis emphasized that the production of the new Lancia Gamma in Melfi demonstrates its commitment to Italian facilities, as stated in their official release.
