Crypto Whale Emerges from Dormancy
U.Today – The crypto tracker Whale Alert recently detected an ancient crypto whale reactivating its wallet after nearly 14 years of dormancy.
The last activity in this wallet occurred shortly after Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto posted his farewell message to the community and vanished. The awakened Bitcoin holder has seen extraordinary profits.
Bitcoin Whale Returns with Massive Gains
This mysterious Bitcoin whale now holds 121 BTC, which, back in 2011, were valued at slightly more than $1 each, totaling $126.
As of October 2024, this Bitcoin stash is worth $7,525,999, reflecting a staggering growth of 5,972,920%.
The news about the dormant whale coincides with the release of HBO's highly anticipated documentary titled Money Electric: Bitcoin Mystery. In it, director Cullen Hoback suggested early Bitcoin developer Peter Todd could be Satoshi Nakamoto.
Controversy Surrounds HBO’s Identification of Satoshi
In the documentary, Hoback interviewed various “Satoshi candidates” and early Bitcoiners but leaned towards Todd, claiming he continued Satoshi’s post on the BitcoinTalk forum.
Many in the Bitcoin community were disheartened by this conclusion. Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus argued that Satoshi is not Peter Todd but might have been Hal Finney with a team of developers. Finney passed away ten years ago from ALS.
In response to Whale Alert’s post about the whale, an X user quipped, “Is that you, Peter Todd?”
Todd criticized Hoback for producing an "irresponsible" documentary, stating, “The truth is pretty simple: there's hundreds, even thousands of people who could have created Bitcoin.” He asserted, “We're not going to find Satoshi.”
Many in the crypto community echo Markus's sentiments, believing Satoshi could be Hal Finney or, according to recent Polymarket data, Len Sassaman, a cryptographer who died by suicide in early 2011, shortly after Satoshi's disappearance.
