Porsche Staff to Strike for Higher Pay

BERLIN (Reuters) – Staff at Porsche AG's Stuttgart site will join strikes in key German industries on Tuesday, according to the IG Metall union's local branch. These strikes are part of a national action aimed at securing higher pay.

The strikes will commence at 2 am (0100 GMT) on Tuesday with the night shift at the Zuffenhausen plant. A public rally is set to begin 30 minutes later in front of the Porsche Museum.

Porsche workers will join employees in Germany's electrical engineering and metal industries, who are also striking to pressurize employers for better pay, as stated by the IG Metall union.

This strike marks the conclusion of a truce period associated with collective bargaining negotiations concerning pay rises for nearly 4 million workers within these key sectors.

The strikes coincide with rising tensions between Volkswagen workers and management. Earlier on Monday, the works council reported that Volkswagen plans to close three factories in Germany and reduce its remaining operations there, along with laying off tens of thousands of employees.

Porsche, which is majority-owned by Volkswagen, recently announced it is reducing its dealership network in China in response to weak demand and indicated significant cost-cutting measures totaling billions of euros.
