OpenAI Releases Video AI Model
(Reuters) – OpenAI announced on Monday the release of its AI model that creates video from text to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, marking an expansion into multimodal AI.
The Microsoft-backed firm initiated a generative AI revolution with the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022. Now, it targets competing text-to-video tools from Meta and Google's Alphabet, as well as Stability AI's Stable Video Diffusion.
The AI model, named Sora, was first introduced in February but initially restricted to safety testers during the research preview phase. It is now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users under the name Sora Turbo at no extra charge.
> "We're working on tailored pricing for different types of users, which we plan to make available early next year," stated the company in a blog post.
Users can generate videos with a resolution of up to 1080p, 20 seconds long, and in various aspect ratios (widescreen, vertical, or square).
OpenAI indicated that Sora will not be accessible in EU countries, Switzerland, and the UK initially, but will be available in other regions where ChatGPT operates.
To prevent misuse, OpenAI will block the creation and upload of harmful content, such as child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes, on the Sora platform.
> “Uploads of people will be limited at launch, but we intend to roll the feature out to more users as we refine our deepfake mitigations," the company added.
