U.Today – Samson Mow on Bitcoin's Mysterious Creator
Samson Mow, early Bitcoiner and CEO at JAN3 and Pixelmatic, has expressed his views on the theory linking the enigmatic Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, to China’s intelligence service.
Mow was in China when Bitcoin was created
Recently, hedge fund manager Kyle Bass tweeted his belief that Satoshi Nakamoto was connected to the Chinese intelligence service, suggesting that Bitcoin was created to undermine U.S. economic power.
Notably, China first banned cryptocurrency ICOs in 2017 and expanded its ban on trading and mining by 2021. The country has also been testing its own CBDC, initially known as DCEP, now referred to as e-yuan.
Samson Mow tweeted that he was in China in 2009, the year Bitcoin was created, and described his activities, stating he ran the largest Bitcoin exchange in China before joining @Blockstream. He humorously remarked that he did not create BTC.
Blockstream, founded by Adam Back—a prominent cypherpunk and one of the candidates for Satoshi—had correspondence with Satoshi discussing Bitcoin. Mow has jokingly embraced his title as “the former colleague of Adam Back,” a nickname given to him by the creators of an upcoming HBO documentary about Satoshi Nakamoto.
"It just can't be coincidence" — Mow on Satoshi's likely connection to China
In his recent post on X, Mow pointed out a curious detail regarding Satoshi’s name spelled in Chinese. He noted that the first character in Satoshi Nakamoto’s name corresponds to the first character in the word for “China,” concluding that it cannot be a coincidence.
