NHTSA Urges Recall for Jeep Plug-In Hybrids
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) advises owners of 154,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid electric SUVs to park outdoors and away from buildings or other vehicles until recall repairs are completed.
Jeep-parent company Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) announced on Monday a recall of 194,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids globally, which includes 154,000 vehicles in the U.S. This decision follows reports of 13 fires associated with these models. NHTSA has also noted that two injuries may be associated with the recall issue. The affected vehicles are equipped with a high-voltage battery that may fail internally, according to NHTSA. Stellantis identified Samsung SDI (KS:005930) as the producer of the battery pack.
