Billy Markus, the creator of Dogecoin, commented on the impact of HBO’s documentary "Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery" released today.
Dogecoin Founder’s Speculation
Markus did not reveal whom he believes to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic Bitcoin creator. He speculated whether the documentary could have a drastically negative effect on Bitcoin's price rather than a bullish one. In a tweet prior to the documentary release, he questioned, "Will Bitcoin instantly crash from the reveal?"
HBO’s Documentary Unveils Candidates
Markus, known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on X (formerly Twitter) and followed by 2.1 million users, discussed the documentary’s mention of several candidates for Satoshi's identity, including Adam Back, Len Sassaman, and former Bitcoin developer Peter Todd. He engaged his followers by asking, "Who do you think it is?" while pondering Bitcoin's possible reaction.
Controversy Surrounding Peter Todd
The documentary claims Peter Todd is Satoshi; however, Todd disputed this assertion. He stated the director was "grasping for straws" and noted he was not consulted prior to the film’s release. Despite this, the director remains confident in his conclusions.
In terms of Bitcoin’s market response, there has not been a significant crash; BTC has only seen a 1.17% decrease in value in the last 24 hours, which cannot be solely attributed to the documentary’s release.
