Disney World Closes Due to Hurricane Milton
(Reuters) – Walt Disney World announced its Florida theme park will remain closed on Thursday, joining other major Orlando attractions as Hurricane Milton approaches the state.
Florida is a top global tourism destination, home to prominent theme parks like Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Entertainment.
Hurricane Milton is forecast to make landfall in Florida on Thursday, bringing expectations of catastrophic damage and prolonged power outages.
Disney's theme parks and Disney Springs began closing in phases starting Wednesday and will also remain closed on Thursday.
Disney World plans to temporarily close its campgrounds and rental cabins early Wednesday, with closures expected to last until Sunday.
SeaWorld Entertainment has also announced it will close its Orlando theme park on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Comcast-owned Universal Orlando Resort confirmed it will be closed on Thursday, and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida have been canceled for both Wednesday and Thursday, while resort hotels will stay open.
In the fiscal third quarter, Walt Disney's experiences segment, which includes parks and consumer products, accounted for just over half of total profit, but recorded a 3% drop in operating income.
