Australia Stock Market Update

Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, with losses primarily in the IT, Gold, and Metals & Mining sectors.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.12%.

Best Performers

  • EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML): +9.84% (up 0.06 points to 0.67)
  • Viva Energy Group Ltd (ASX:VEA): +2.66% (up 0.07 points to 2.70)
  • Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT): +1.95% (up 0.03 points to 1.31)

Worst Performers

  • Reece Ltd (ASX:REH): -7.94% (down 2.11 points to 24.45)
  • Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC): -6.32% (down 6.70 points to 99.37)
  • Super Retail Group Ltd (ASX:SUL): -5.25% (down 0.88 points to 15.87)

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 658 to 460, while 445 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, an indicator of implied volatility for S&P/ASX 200 options, decreased 2.21% to 12.55.

Commodities Trading

  • Gold Futures (December delivery) rose 0.43% (up 11.70 to $2,741.10 a troy ounce).
  • Crude Oil (December delivery) increased 1.24% (up 0.88 to $71.65 a barrel).
  • Brent Oil (December contract) was up 1.11% (up 0.83 to $75.79 a barrel).

Foreign Exchange

  • AUD/USD was unchanged at 0.66.
  • AUD/JPY decreased 0.14% to 101.19.
  • US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.10% to 104.18.
