Apple Integrates OpenAI's ChatGPT
(Reuters) – Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) on Wednesday started integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into its devices, fulfilling a long-awaited feature that may boost sales of its latest iPhones.
The rollout is part of a broader deployment of artificial intelligence-powered tools in recent updates to iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems.
The ChatGPT integration, announced in June as part of the Apple Intelligence unveil, enables the Siri voice assistant to utilize the chatbot's expertise for user queries regarding photos and documents such as presentations.
Users can also request ChatGPT to generate written content in any app supporting the new Writing Tools feature. Additionally, they can leverage the chatbot's image generation capabilities to incorporate images.
This move arrives during the peak holiday shopping season, Apple's most profitable sales period of the year. However, the gradual rollout of Apple Intelligence features has raised concerns among investors about the health of the iPhone 16 sales cycle.
The AI features will be available on the latest iPhone series, including the Pro and Pro Max versions of the previous iPhone 15 lineup. iPad users with A17 Pro or M1 chips and later, along with Mac users with M1 chips and later, can also access the tools.
