Amazon Donates $1 Million to Trump's Inaugural Fund

(Reuters) – Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is donating $1 million to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural fund and will air the event on its Prime Video service, according to an Amazon spokesperson on Thursday.

The donation through Prime Video represents an additional in-kind contribution worth $1 million, as stated by the spokesperson. The donations were initially reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Amazon joins another tech giant, Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), which will also donate $1 million to the January 20 Trump inauguration, as confirmed by a Meta spokesperson.

Next week, Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and executive chairman, is scheduled to meet with Trump, as mentioned in an interview by the president-elect on Thursday with CNBC.

Trump has been critical of the Washington Post's coverage of his administration, which is owned by Bezos. The Post chose not to endorse any candidate in the November presidential election, a decision that prevented an endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, as reported by National Public Radio.

In defense of this non-endorsement move, Bezos remarked in an opinion piece in the Post that "most people believe the media is biased," asserting that the Post and similar newspapers need to enhance their credibility.

For context, Trump raised a record $106.7 million for his inauguration festivities in 2017.
