Tesla's Robotaxi Announcement
(Reuters) – Tesla's upcoming robotaxi will feature two front seats and butterfly-wing doors. CEO Elon Musk is expected to discuss deploying the Full Self-Driving assistance software on the Semi big rig, according to Bloomberg News.
The announcement is anticipated during the reveal of the robotaxi at an event on Thursday. However, the timeline for the vehicle's deployment, referred to as Cybercab, remains uncertain.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has not commented on this development as of yet. Industry watchers and investors are keen to hear about the launch timeline and plans for a potential ride-hailing app.
Ken Mahoney, CEO of Mahoney Asset Management, stated, "We should hear more about the production timeline and when they go live most likely … We do think that this will take time to ramp up certainly, anywhere from six months to a year."
Additionally, Musk has suggested that Tesla owners may allow their vehicles to operate as robotaxis when they are not in use.
The event, titled "We, Robot," likely references Isaac Asimov's collection of science fiction stories, I, Robot. It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. PT at Warner Bros Hollywood studio.
