U.Today – Bitcoin Core 28.0 Released

Nearly six months after the debut of Bitcoin Core 27.0, the BTC development team has launched the latest update of the protocol. Dubbed Bitcoin Core 28.0, this new iteration comes with a couple of improvements and bug fixes for the Bitcoin mainnet.

Bitcoin Development Team Aims for More Security and Privacy

This week, the Bitcoin development team published notes highlighting several updates designed to enhance the program’s functionality and security. In addition to increased security and other bug fixes, Bitcoin Core 28.0 introduces upgraded privacy features for users.

This update follows recent notifications about a high-risk vulnerability and a software bug affecting one in every six Bitcoin nodes, making them susceptible to DoS attacks. Malicious actors were able to disrupt operations by exhausting nodes with low-difficulty header chains, which could lead to crashes when nodes downloaded long chains exceeding their bandwidth.

With Bitcoin Core 28.0 and its additional security enhancements, these issues are now mitigated. Furthermore, this development supports reproducible builds, allowing experienced users to compile identical binaries as those distributed on the BTC Core official website—a move that promotes trust and transparency within the BTC community.

Bitcoin Price Sees Some Rally

The market outlook for BTC shifted on Sept. 18, following the Federal Reserve’s announcement of a 50-basis-point rate cut. The flagship cryptocurrency rose above $60,000 after struggling below this level for several days. However, shortly after this increase, the coin started trading sideways.

Recently, Bitcoin approached $62,000 but didn’t register further gains, despite the release of U.S. job data. Currently, the coin is trading at $62,121.25, reflecting a 1.65% increase over the past 24 hours per CoinMarketCap data.

While the impact of the Bitcoin Core update on overall performance may not be immediate, it could affect market perception as investors factor it in properly.
