Novo Nordisk’s Mitigation Plans Amid U.S. Port Strikes

(Reuters) – Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO) announced on Tuesday that it has implemented mitigation plans to minimize or prevent disruptions to its production due to sea port strikes in the United States.

The producer of popular medications like Wegovy and Ozempic intends to utilize air freight for shipping its products to and from the U.S., as stated by a company spokesperson.

Novo Nordisk imports some of its active pharmaceutical ingredient, semaglutide, into the U.S. for its diabetes treatment Ozempic and weight-loss drug Wegovy. CNBC first reported on these mitigation strategies.

Earlier on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) indicated that preliminary analysis reveals a strike by East Coast and Gulf Coast dockworkers would likely have a limited impact on the availability of essential goods, including medicines and medical devices.

The dockworkers began their first large-scale work stoppage in nearly 50 years, interrupting approximately half of the country’s ocean shipping, following a breakdown in negotiations for a new labor contract over wage disputes.
