GUN Token Expands to Solana

Off the Grid’s GUN token is set to expand to Solana on Thursday after originally being launched exclusively on Avalanche, driving the battle royale shooter’s dedicated L1 network, GUNZ. A Solana-themed skin pack has also been released for the game, marking the ecosystem expansion.

The move aims to lower the barrier for entry for users to buy the GUN token and aligns with the project’s “multi-chain ethos,” indicating other chains might be added to the roadmap.

“This is in line with our goal to make the GUNZ marketplace and its items, as well as any games within the GUNZ ecosystem, accessible to anyone—on any chain,” said Theodore Agranat, Gunzilla Games Director of Web3, in an interview with Decrypt.

When asked if the Solana version of GUN could be used on the Off the Grid marketplace at launch, Agranat replied, “Maybe.” He remained vague about which chain GUN could expand to next, saying Decrypt was “asking the right questions.”

Following the news, the GUN token extended its daily losses, dropping 11% over the last 24 hours to a price below $0.036, according to CoinGecko.

Jerry Li, a business development employee at the Solana Foundation, commented, “We want to be the best place for you to launch a token, connect with users who believe in it, and ensure this market can accurately value your token.”

Currently, the GUN token ranks as the 73rd largest gaming token by market cap, but with Off the Grid’s notable presence among crypto games, the March launch didn’t ignite significant demand. The token is down 69% from its peak price.

In contrast, Off the Grid’s marketplace has seen an increase in sales, processing $666,600 in volume over the past 30 days, as reported by DegenRadar. Significant in-game skin sales have emerged, including the Tacoma Pioneer, which sold for $5,499.

The GUN token’s drop from its all-time high has confused some investors, as the player base appears to remain engaged. Traders are hopeful the Solana expansion will improve the token’s valuation, despite initial price actions suggesting otherwise.

Money Magician, a pseudonymous Off the Grid NFT skin collector, shared, “The principal effect of this move will be increased accessibility for new investors, lowering the barrier for entry to buy.”

Existing GUN tokens will remain on the GUNZ Avalanche L1, but users will have the option to bridge their assets to Solana if desired. It’s important to note that there will be no changes to the GUNZ network, wallet, or the game itself regarding Solana.

Skin traders indicated that the Solana support for GUN may not significantly impact the ecosystem, but they are eagerly awaiting the ability to trade in-game skins on OpenSea, with integration targeted for this month.

“That’s when real money will flow in and out of the skins economy,” concluded Money Magician.
