Speculations on SEC vs Ripple Lawsuit Settlement

Since the start of this year, speculations regarding the potential settlement of the lawsuit between the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple Labs have fluctuated.

XRP Price Under Pressure

Pro-crypto lawyer Bill Morgan suggested on X that this uncertainty surrounding the lawsuit’s resolution may continuously exert a negative impact on the price of XRP. Since the SEC initiated its lawsuit in December 2020, it has primarily affected Ripple Labs’ operations and the XRP price. Morgan noted:

> “The ongoing uncertainty about the end or continuation of SEC v Ripple appeal will eventually increasingly exert negative pressure on XRP price.”

At the time of writing, XRP is down 1.67% in 24 hours, trading at $2.29. Despite an earlier major breakout, XRP is still viewed as underperforming compared to projected expectations. Many believe it could have risen to the second-largest digital currency position if the lawsuit had not hindered its price. As anticipation builds regarding potential price changes, some community members caution against overly optimistic expectations, warning that any lawsuit-induced price rally may be temporary.

Possible End to Ripple Lawsuit

With new interim U.S. SEC President Mark Uyeda in office since January, a notable change in enforcement actions has been observed. Recently, the SEC concluded its lawsuit against the Coinbase exchange. Other major crypto firms—including Uniswap, Robinhood Crypto, and Kraken—have also seen their legal battles with the SEC come to an end. Experts speculate that a resolution to the Ripple and SEC litigation is approaching, although the exact timeline remains uncertain. A recent report indicated that lawyers from both the SEC and Ripple are finalizing settlement details to prevent future conflicts.
