Apple in Talks to Invest in OpenAI
Investing.com — Apple is in discussions to invest in OpenAI as the tech giant aims to strengthen its position in the artificial intelligence race, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, citing anonymous sources.
The investment by Apple is part of a new funding round for OpenAI, led by the venture capital firm Thrive Capital. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), which currently holds a 49% stake in OpenAI, is also set to participate in this funding round.
Details regarding the amount Apple or Microsoft would invest in this funding round were not disclosed at the time.
Apple’s potential investment follows the announcement at its June developers conference where the company introduced its AI platform “Apple Intelligence,” which will feature an upgraded version of Siri powered by OpenAI’s generative AI model, ChatGPT.
As of the latest reports, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) had seen an increase of more than 2% in its stock price.
