Duke Energy Files Plan for Cost Recovery
(Reuters) – U.S.-based utility Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) announced on Friday that it has submitted a plan to the Florida Public Service Commission to recover approximately $1.1 billion in direct costs related to its emergency response efforts for hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton.
Duke, the largest utility serving North and South Carolina, indicated that these hurricanes impacted its service areas recently, causing damage to miles of transmission lines and power poles. As a result, tens of thousands of customers experienced power outages.
The company also stated on Friday that residential customers can expect their monthly bills to rise by about $21 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity starting in March 2025, compared to February 2025.
