Exxon Mobil Faces Legal Action in Australia

(Reuters) – Australia's competition watchdog has taken Exxon Mobil's local brand affiliate to court, alleging misleading claims about fuel sold at six branded petrol stations in Queensland.

Mobil, a petroleum brand owned and operated by Exxon Mobil, is accused by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) of falsely representing its "Mobil Synergy" fuel as containing certain additives that it did not.

"Consumers have no way of verifying the claims made about the fuel they put into their tank and rely on the accuracy of claims made by the fuel supplier," said ACCC Commissioner Liza Carver.

Additionally, Mobil allegedly misrepresented that the fuel at these stations had a different quality or composition compared to fuel at other sites, claiming it contained extra benefits.

Mobil Australia could not be reached for immediate comment.
