Meta Platforms Updates Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

(Reuters) – Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) announced on Monday an update for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses featuring AI video capability and real-time language translation.

The Facebook parent company initially revealed these features during its annual Connect conference in September. The update is now available for members in the "Early Access Program."

The features are part of the v11 software update rolling out beginning Monday.

The update integrates video into Meta's AI chatbot assistant, enabling the Ray-Ban smart glasses to process user visuals and respond instantly to queries.

Additionally, the smart glasses can now translate speech in real-time between English and Spanish, French, or Italian.

Meta explained, "When conversing with someone speaking one of those three languages, you’ll hear their words in English through the glasses' open-ear speakers or see transcripts on your phone, and vice versa."

Moreover, the update includes Shazam, an app that identifies songs, available in the U.S. and Canada.

In September, Meta announced plans to enhance the Ray-Ban smart glasses with various AI functionalities, including setting reminders and using voice commands to scan QR codes and phone numbers.
