iGenius and Nvidia Team Up for Major AI Project
By Stephen Nellis
(Reuters) – Italian startup iGenius and Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) announced plans to deploy one of the world’s largest installations of Nvidia’s latest servers in a southern Italy data center by mid-2024.
iGenius is constructing a data center to accommodate approximately 80 of Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72 servers, each equipped with 72 of Nvidia’s Blackwell chips.
While the project’s cost remains undisclosed, CEO Uljan Sharka mentioned that iGenius, valued over $1 billion, has raised 650 million euros this year and is securing more funds for its AI computing system, dubbed “Colosseum.”
Distinguished from competitors like OpenAI, iGenius specializes in developing open-source AI software models for industries requiring stringent data security, such as banks and healthcare organizations, which implement these models on their own systems.
For Colosseum, iGenius utilizes Nvidia’s comprehensive software suite, including the newly introduced Nvidia NIMS, which allows users to easily access AI models akin to an app store. This means that businesses using Nvidia chips can integrate models with just a click.
According to Charlie Boyle, Nvidia's VP and GM of DGX systems, Colosseum will host one of the largest deployments of Nvidia’s premier servers globally. Several Nvidia teams are collaborating with iGenius to ensure the system’s successful launch.
“They're really building something unique here.”
