Turkey's Competition Board Ends Investigation of Meta

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Turkey's competition board announced on Thursday the termination of an investigation into Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) concerning data-sharing between its social media platforms, Threads and Instagram.

The board stated that the commitments presented by Meta to resolve competition concerns were sufficient, leading to the conclusion of the investigation.

As part of these commitments, Meta assured that both existing and new Threads users can create a Threads profile without needing an Instagram account once the app is reinstated in Turkey.

Meta further informed the antitrust authority that user data from Threads will not be merged with Instagram unless users opt for account merging.

The investigation was initiated last year to examine possible competition law violations linked to the integration of Meta’s multiple social media platforms.

Earlier in April, Meta had temporarily suspended its Threads platform in Turkey to comply with an interim directive from the Turkish competition authority.
