GM Recalls Trucks Due to Tailgate Concerns
(Reuters) – On Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that General Motors (NYSE:GM) is recalling approximately 132,037 trucks due to concerns about tailgates unlatching unexpectedly.
Affected Models
The recall impacts certain 2024 models of:
– Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500
– Chevrolet Silverado HD 3500
– GMC Sierra HD 2500
– GMC Sierra HD 3500
These vehicles are equipped with power-unlatching tailgates.
Issue Details
Water intrusion may lead to the electronic gate-release switch short-circuiting. This could result in unintended unlatching while the vehicle is in Park.
Manufacturer's Advice
The U.S. auto safety regulator has advised owners of affected models to ensure that their tailgates are securely closed and latched prior to driving.
GM has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters.
Dealer Actions
Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies at no cost to the owners, according to the NHTSA.
