Trump Celebrates Bitcoin's 16th Birthday
Former President Donald Trump wished Bitcoin a happy 16th birthday while taking a jab at fellow presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
> "I would like to wish our great Bitcoiners a Happy 16th Anniversary of Satoshi’s White Paper. We will end Kamala’s war on crypto, & Bitcoin will be MADE IN THE USA! VOTE TRUMP! #Bitcoin #FreeRossDayOne," Trump stated on X.
Bitcoin celebrated its 16th birthday on Thursday, originating from the release of its influential white paper by the pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008. Since then, Bitcoin's price has soared to over $70,000, approaching its all-time high of approximately $73,700.
Trump's remarks come just a week before the U.S. presidential election. He has vowed to terminate what he calls an "unlawful and un-American crackdown" on the U.S. crypto industry and supports a crypto initiative called World Liberty Financial.
Conversely, Vice President Harris has indicated that her administration would support innovative technologies such as AI and digital assets, while aiming to protect consumers and investors, as outlined in her 80-page economic plan.
The Biden administration has been perceived as unfavorable towards digital assets by certain members of the crypto community. Critics point to President Joe Biden's nomination of Gary Gensler to head the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, claiming he adopts a "regulation by enforcement" strategy, which has drawn backlash from crypto advocates.
