Volkswagen's Audi in Talks for Brussels Plant
BERLIN (Reuters) – Volkswagen's luxury division Audi is negotiating with a potential investor for its struggling Brussels plant, according to a company spokesperson on Tuesday.
A working group exploring alternative uses for the facility is ongoing, although no conclusion has been reached yet.
Sources indicate the potential investor is a commercial vehicle manufacturer.
Volkswagen is contemplating closing three plants in Germany as part of a cost-reduction initiative. In July, it announced the possibility of closing its Brussels site, which employs around 3,000 people, due to low demand for higher-end electric vehicles.
The plant currently produces Audi's electric luxury SUV, the Q8 e-tron, but production of this model will halt next February.
