Roblox Plans Office in Turkey

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Video game platform Roblox announced plans to open an office in Turkey, contingent on the restoration of access to the platform. The Turkish government had blocked access due to concerns regarding content that could potentially lead to child abuse.

In August, Turkey's Justice Minister stated that the blockage was imposed under a court order to ensure children's protection while an investigation was carried out.

Roblox expressed its belief in contributing positively to society by providing a platform for learning, creation, and meaningful connections. The company is committed to dialogue with authorities regarding Turkey's specific needs.

"We have a plan in place to open an office and hire a dedicated team in Türkiye, including additional local language moderators, if access to the platform is restored," said Roblox.

Roblox confirmed its respect for local laws and regulations in Türkiye and is actively engaging with local authorities to restore access while prioritizing the safety of players and developers in the region.

This ban on Roblox occurred shortly after Turkey blocked access to Instagram, owned by Meta (NASDAQ:META), citing non-compliance with specific laws and public concerns.
