JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Considers Government Role

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon would consider a role in government, potentially as Treasury Secretary, if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the U.S. presidential election, according to a report by the New York Times on Tuesday.

Dimon has been cautious about expressing his intentions publicly, fearing backlash if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins. The chief executive of the largest U.S. bank has frequently been mentioned for significant positions in U.S. economic policy.

During JPMorgan's recent post-earnings call, Dimon remarked that the likelihood of being asked to take a government position is "almost nil," though he retains the option to reconsider.

Since taking over at JPMorgan in 2006, Dimon has assured that he and the board will handle succession responsibly when the time comes, though he has not disclosed specifics.

Known for his outspoken views on economic and policy issues, Dimon has celebrated American values and patriotism, notably in his annual letter published in April. "I've always been an American patriot and my country is more important to me than my company," he stated in a recent analyst call.

The bank did not comment on the report, and representatives for both the Harris and Trump campaigns had no immediate response to Reuters' inquiries.
